Descend the stairs at Winselerhof into the cellars of the farmhouse, and the first thing you notice is history: brick vaults, dimmed light, the scent of fresh pasta. There, in the estate's oldest room, sits Luigi's — the relaxed, Italian counterpart to the hotel above ground. No showy lobby, just a door leading downstairs.
In the cellars of a centuries-old farmhouse
The room has stayed authentic: brick arches, a terracotta floor and table lamps that cast a warm, intimate glow. That contrast is exactly the charm of the place — homemade Italian dishes from fresh, local and seasonal produce, served beneath centuries-old walls that once served simply as the farmhouse's storage. Guests staying at Hotel Winselerhof don't need to leave the estate for dinner: the stairs down are enough.
Two moods, one estate
Winselerhof has two Italian faces. At Pirandello, the cooking is fine dining, in a higher register; at Luigi's, the pace is slower and sharing comes first — pasta and dishes for the table, in a setting closer to a trattoria than a starred restaurant. Two kitchens, one estate, and reason enough to stay for more than one evening.
The Vinoteca, wine by Italian region
Next to the main room lies the Vinoteca, Luigi's own wine room: racks arranged by Italian region, from Tuscany to Sicily, with wine barrels as decor. The space can also be booked for a private group — a wine tasting, a business dinner, or simply a birthday under the vaults, with a glass of your choice within easy reach.
Landgraaf's best-kept secret
In summer, the scene shifts outdoors, to the terrace in the courtyard: sheltered from the wind and surrounded by greenery. Chapeau Magazine nominated the terrace for Terrace of the Year 2025 — recognition that suits a place few people beyond the region know, but one that Winselerhof's guests have long considered their quiet favourite. Lunch, drinks or dinner, it hardly matters: sitting outside is simply part of the season here.
From Limburg pie to fresh pasta
The menu stays close to its roots: Italian simplicity, without frills. Alongside the pasta and grilled dishes, you'll also find Limburg vlaai on the menu — a small, deliberate nod to the region the farmhouse has stood in for centuries, and a combination that works surprisingly well.
Walk, dine, stay
For those who want to pair an evening at Luigi's with a day outdoors: the Strijthagerbeekdal loop starts right at the estate and follows the stream that rises there — good reason to sit down to dinner with an appetite. The overnight stay with breakfast and 3-course dinner package combines a night at Hotel Winselerhof with dinner at Luigi's, so there's nothing left to do after dessert but head upstairs to the room. Those who'd rather taste the whole region first can read on in the culinary tour of South Limburg.
