The cycling season begins in the hill country

As soon as the slopes turn green, the cycling season begins in South Limburg. What to expect on the climbs around Landgraaf, with Winselerhof as your starting point.

There is a moment in spring when the hill country changes character: the fields turn green, the verges fill with blossom and the first cyclists appear on the slopes. That is when the cycling season begins in South Limburg, and it lasts well into autumn.

Why people cycle here

South Limburg is the only truly hilly cycling region in the Netherlands. Short, firm climbs alternate with fast descents and views over rolling fields. For some that is a challenge, for others mostly a beautiful backdrop; with an e-bike everyone joins in.

Nodes and border routes

The fine thing about this region is the cross-border node network. You move without fuss from Dutch to German paths, along the border river Worm and the centuries-old Rolduc Abbey near Kerkrade. You put together your own route, short or long, flat or demanding.

A route to begin with

Anyone who wants to get to know the hill country can start well with our border cycling route past Rolduc and the Worm: a demanding loop that combines the region's finest ingredients, with climbs, views and a stretch of Germany.

Into the season from Winselerhof

Winselerhof in Landgraaf lies directly on routes through the hill country and has secure bike storage, so in the morning you roll straight into the hills. In the evening you recharge with an Italian dinner and a glass of wine in the courtyard. A finer base for the cycling season is hard to find.

Whether you come for the kilometres or the views: as soon as the slopes turn green, it is time to get on the bike again in the hill country.
