Starting point: Winselerhof and the node network

From Winselerhof you can pick up the fine-meshed cycling node network of Parkstad straight away. It is cross-border, so you move smoothly from Dutch to German paths and back without much searching.

Along the way: up and down the hills

This is not a flat route. You ride up and down through the hill country, past sunken lanes, half-timbered houses and idyllic villages. The reward for every climb is a wide view over the rolling fields and woods of South Limburg.

Highlight: Rolduc Abbey and the Worm

Near Kerkrade you ride past the centuries-old Rolduc Abbey, with the Ailbertus vineyard at its rear. A little further on you follow the meanders of the border river Worm for kilometres, cutting deep through the green borderland.

Back: along the border to Landgraaf

The final loop brings you back towards Landgraaf via the borderland and the node network. Expect a few more solid climbs before you are back at the courtyard of Winselerhof.

Good to know

  • Demanding because of the many climbs; an e-bike makes it far more relaxed.
  • Keep your phone or cycle computer to hand for the nodes.
  • Bring your passport or ID: you cross the border several times.
  • Distance and duration are approximate; the exact route follows.

From Winselerhof

Winselerhof offers secure bike storage and lies directly on routes through the hill country, ideal for an active day. In the evening you rest your legs over a plate of pasta in Luigi's or a multi-course dinner in Pirandello.

This route is still being finalised — the GPX download and exact coordinates will follow soon.
