Nature
Vechtdal
Just outside Ommen, in the heart of the Vechtdal, you find an estate where culture and nature hold each other in balance. At Landgoed Eerde you walk along centuries-old avenues towards a stately castle, while all around the woods rustle and the Regge quietly winds its way through the green.
The castle as you see it today took its form in 1715 under baron van Pallandt, who laid out the park with strict, symmetrical avenues. The house can only be visited under the guidance of a guide, but even from the outside the white facade among the old trees makes an impression.
Manager Natuurmonumenten maintains a varied landscape here: straight avenues and formal park sections give way to old deciduous woods and rough fields where work is under way to boost biodiversity. The Regge winds through the forest, a rare sight in the Netherlands, and with luck you spot a kingfisher darting past or find the tracks of roe deer in the soft ground.
From the car park by the castle you follow the marked routes of the walking network, from a short loop to an eleven-kilometre trek past every face of the estate. You are welcome from sunrise to sunset; take your time, breathe in the scent of the forest and let the calm of Eerde settle over you.
